The exhibition focuses on the cultural assets of Antakya, which was destroyed by the 6 February earthquakes. The silhouette drawings in the ITU Restoration Program Archive and the photographs taken by artist Murat Germen before and after the earthquake in his region were the main elements of the exhibition.
As Manuma Studio, we designed the exhibition identity and graphics. While creating the logo, each letter was chosen from a font with a different character and tried to be brought together in harmony. The letters were connected to each other to strengthen the sense of unity. The small squares (pins) make a humble reference to the rich mosaics of Antakya. It supports the concepts of unity of differences and being a cultural mosaic.

" 6 Şubat 2023 tarihinde gerçekleşen depremlerde Antakya tarihi kent merkezinde çok sayıda kültür varlığı hasar gördü. Bu merkezi alanın deprem sonrası onarım ve yeniden yapılanma sürecine yönelik farklı girişimlerin / yaklaşımların gündeme gelmesi, öncesinde üretilmiş verileri ve durumu da bilmeyi gerektiriyor.
Afet sonrası Antakya tarihî yerleşiminin rehabilitasyonu için en önemli kaynak, dünden bugüne bölgede yapılan çalışmalar ve tespitlerdir. Kurumların ve kişilerin arşivlerinde bulunan bilgileri bir araya getirmek için çok sayıda girişim gerçekleşiyor. Bu anlamda İTÜ Restorasyon Programı dâhilinde 2003 ve 2005 yıllarında yapılan belgelemeler ve projeler de koruma çalışmaları için yönlendirici nitelikte önemli bir birikimi teşkil ediyor. Program kapsamında yüksek lisans öğrencileri ve öğretim üyeleri tarafından Antakya Kentsel Sit alanında hem kent hem de tek yapı ölçeğinde yapılan tespitler, tarihsel kent peyzajının önemli bileşeni olan sokaklar için çizilen siluetler, alan sakinleriyle görüşmelerin ortaya koyduğu veriler ve bunlar doğrultusunda geliştirilen öneriler, deprem sonrası ilgili miras alanlarının rehabilitasyonu için çok önemli referanslardır.
6 Şubat’ın ardından Hatay’daki yıkımı fotoğraflayan sanatçı / akademisyen Murat Germen, depremin yol açtığı yoğun yıkımlar sebebiyle İTÜ Restorasyon Programı Arşivi’nde siluet çizimleri bulunan sokaklardan sadece Kurtuluş Caddesi ve Turan Sokak’a ulaşabildi. Güncel fotoğrafları, 2006 yılında yine aynı bölgelerde çektiği karelerle birlikte deprem öncesi ve sonrası durumun birer belgesi olarak sergide izleyicilerle buluşuyor. "

“CONSERVATION IS REMEMBERING AND RENEWING THE MEMORY”

" In the earthquakes that took place on February 6, 2023, many cultural properties were damaged in the historical city center of Antakya [Antioch]. The emergence of different initiatives / approaches for the post-earthquake repair and reconstruction process of this central area requires knowing the data and the previous situation.
The most important resource for the rehabilitation of the historical settlement of Antakya after the disaster is the studies and evaluations done for the region from past to present. There are many attempts to bring together the information found in the archives of institutions and individuals. In this sense, the documentation and projects made in 2003 and 2005 within the scope of the ITU Restoration Program constitute an important accumulation of guidance for conservation studies. Within the scope of the program, the documentation made by postgraduate students and faculty members in the Antakya Urban Conservation Site area, both at the city and single building scale, the silhouettes drawn for the streets, which are an important component of the historical urban landscape, the data revealed by the interviews with the residents of the area and the suggestions developed in line with these, are all very important references for the post-earthquake rehabilitation of the relevant heritage areas.
Photographing the destruction in Hatay after February 6, artist/academic Murat Germen was able to reach only Kurtuluş Caddesi and Turan Sokak drawings from the streets with silhouette drawings in the ITU Restoration Program Archive due to the intense destruction caused by the earthquake. His current photographs, together with the shots he took in the same regions in 2006, meet the audience in the exhibition as a document of the situation before and after the earthquake.
The exhibition, which offers the chance to travel in Antakya 20 years ago, conveys valuable information in the context of urban memory about the buildings destroyed in the earthquake, as well as important parts of the buildings that were forced to be demolished due to heavy damage in the earthquake. "
