TEKEL was a tobacco, spirits and salt company owned by the Republic of Turkey. The TEKEL Building, which was built as a depot and store in 1935, was restored in 2023 and re-functioned as an art gallery, workshop and cafe.
As Manuma Studio, we named the new identity "Depo.No4", referring to the historical background of the building, located at number 4 on the busiest street of the city, and designed a corporate identity and orientation system.
The building has unique architectural features such as symmetrical plan and facade composition, three-armed staircase, circular and elliptical windows, iron shutters and railings. During the renovation process, the architects focused on revealing the original appearance of the building and keeping it in its raw form. It is where our graphic designs are inspired from, we feel that building and graphic designs complement each other perfectly. In addition to corporate materials such as business cards, letterheads and files, packaging and promotional products, we also designed site-specific lighting elements and carried graphic elements into product designs. The signs use the building itself as a backdrop, thanks to their permeability, shows the wall behind as much as possible.
